Reed
Business
Recruitment
Building description
4-storey brick. It is the work place of 200+ staff, out of a total of 3000+ staff the company has around the UK.
What's the plot?
The garden was made for the launch of Reed's Green Lunch Day. The following day also happened to be Children In Need day. We raised money from the garden by selling offsprings from 2 spider plants which we sold in used vending machine cups.
Were there any sub-plots ?
There was one about working around the current credit crunch. The Financial Director, Alan Hunt, added a water feature to the garden. Alan, who oversees the company credit control exclaimed "Easy! Bring a bucket in, put it on the floor, fill it with water, add a few coins ...and just wait". Besides raising money from the wishing well, the staff at this location raised £615 for Children in Need through selling cakes, opera singing and a Beanstalk Tour. The money is worth £787 with Gift Aid.
How did this happen?
A plotter had an idea for raising awareness about the office environment.
Where's the plot?
Large Dining room occupying a third of the floor space on the top floor.
When did this happen?

Will there be a sequel?
A company isn't a corporate without vending machines, maybe this is why we have five! They need to be regularly replenished to supply crisps, chocolates and caffeine. So, a self-sustaining one is desirable. We will be adding pots of herbs such as Basil, Mint, Parsley, etc. to make a rejuvenating Green Vending Machine. Staff can pick the leaves for their soups, pasta and sandwiches.

I think it's a lovely idea. The herb pots are a good idea too. I took at least a dozen plants into work once while I was moving, and they were greatly missed by the staff when they had gone.
here are some comments i have condensed into one post. if you are a gardener, do advice on how we can improve these plots.

there's not much space to make a garden in our office but, you can come visit us in Jan .. maybe for plotting consultation :)

What a brilliant idea and project!
Although I'm not working and may not get involved (although I'm starting to think perhaps I can get pots of plants from my condo and do just what you did....)
but like to pass it on to people working in offices..esp. large offices. Surely they can take time off their work and do something light, happy and helpful.

Very impressive! Unfortunately we are not allowed plants in the office so I have my window garden...maybe I'll make more of an effort to dress it up for Christmas :-)

Well done 2See. It's very rare these days that people make a REAL
effort to improve their work environment. Do you want a pic of my palm at my building site? Only kidding!

That's a really cool name - very appropriate. Unfortunately I don't really have an office to implement this. But at home we are surrounded by quite a bit of green stuff. You're really making a positive impact at this company, great stuff.
After some deliberations and moments of shame that I do not have a pot plant in my office to start up a corporate plot, I have had a moment of thought. Yes, a single thought that hasn't died of loneliness.
The thought now has a name, Green Top Day and what it is, is we get residents in apartment buildings in the city to organise their own rooftop Green Top party where each individual bring a pot plant each or come as their pot plant. The idea is to fill up as many roof tops of apartment buildings in the city with pot plants and by doing so, playing an important role in reducing each individuals' carbon footprint whilst promoting community spirit and yet another reason for us Aussies to get together and have a beer.
Will keep you posted as to my progress in the attempt to start up Green Top Day.
You're started something special here, See2. Good on ya.
p/s Imagine how the satellite photos will look like if we can get every rooftop of every building in all cities around the world filled up with pot plants!
Wonderful blog! I really love how it is easy on my eyes as well as the facts are well written.
Your concepts were easy to understand that I wondered why I never looked at it prior to.
Glad to find out that there's a blogger out there that certainly understands what he's discussing.
Excellent.
